The museum of Islamic art was erected in1903 to house the valuable collection of Islamic antiquities stored since 1880 in the SE riwaq of Hakim mosque and that of the khedival library later increased by masterpieces from excavation and donations the number of objects in the museum is almost 75000 displayed in 23 halls most of them named according to the Islamic period from the Umayyad period passing throw the Abbasid, Fatimid to the Mamluk and Ottoman period.
