Overview

The idea of a museum show began in the ancient Egyptian temples such as Karnak temple Luxor temple so we discovered high-quality groups of royal statues collected in one place such as The cachette of Karnak in 1903 and cachette of Luxor temple 1989. In the contemporary history, the first museum was constructed in 1835 in El Azbakia garden and later 1902 in Tahrir square which doesn't have enough space for a good display for its contents so in 2002 the foundation stone of the Grand Egyptian Museum was laid. The choice of the genius site for the Grand Egyptian museum chosen to be the largest indoor museum in the world covering 120 acers near the largest open-air museum the Giza pyramids plateau covering 3.19.Km², therefore, the idea of designing its façades inspired from the theory of the Great triangle which can be divided into an infinite number of triangles. For the first time, visitors will be able to see all the contents of King Tutankhamun tomb, more than 4000 pieces, displayed in one place and a selfie can be taken with the background of the pyramids.

The Grand Egyptian Museum located two kilometers west of the Giza plateau and covering more than 100,000 square meters one-third of the whole area is for the exhibition of 100,000 of artefacts create an interactive experience for the visitor the main attraction is the first full tomb collection of King Tutankhamun. The collection includes more than 4000 items collected from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and from storages of many other museums .it was designed by Heneghan Peng company and the exhibition design and museology is by the German Atelier Brückner and the Spanish contractor Acciona. In plan, the building is shaped like a big chamfered triangle divided into smaller triangles recalling the pyramids. The museum's north and south walls aline directly with the pyramid of Cheops and Mecerinos. In front of the building is a large park, filled with date palm trees. The façade of the museum consists of a translucid alabaster wall, inside the main entrance is a large, atrium where 70 huge statues are exhibited. The museum also contains a library, a research center, restoration laboratories, and a museum for children as well. The foundation stone of the Grand Egyptian Museum was laid on February 2002 and cost about 550 million dollar.
